RANCHI: Four minor girls, who were rescued by police from the clutches of traffickers in Delhi and Varanasi, were brought to Ranchi on Thursday.

The girls have been handed over to Childline, an NGO, to make arrangements for sending them back home.

Three of the girls rescued from Delhi revealed that they had run away from their home without informing their parents after middlemen lured them of better life and money in Delhi. They admitted that their hopes shattered when they were ditched and did not got a single penny.

Those rescued from Delhi are Roshni Toppo (14), a resident of Shimdega, Sukarmini (14) and Birsi Barwa (14), both residents of Manoharpur. Another girl Laxmi Kumari, a resident of Mandar, was rescued from Varanasi. All of them are tribals. The story of all the girls is more or less the same. Roshni and Sukarmuni are daughters of farmers and had fled home to earn money and become rich. They were fascinated by the charms of big cities they had seen in TV serials.

Roshni had left her home around nine months ago along with her neighbour Basanti. She was assigned work at a house in Laxmi Nagar area. Few weeks ago, Basanti fell in dispute over remuneration paid by the owner and somehow managed to reach a police station from where she was sent to Prayas, a shelter home.

Sukarmuni and Birsi were nabbed by police along with Mahinder, a middleman, as soon as they landed at the Delhi railway station. Police sent Mahinder to jail and the girls to a shelter home.

Laxmi was lured by one of her distant relatives who took her to Varanasi to work in a brick kiln. However, she managed to give a slip to her relative at a marketplace and reached a police station.

According to the director of Childine, Ranchi, Nishit Kumar Tah, the houses of the girls have been located and they would be handed over to their parents within a day or two.

In a span of one year, around 45 trafficked girls of Jharkhand were rescued from different parts of the country. All of them were brought to the Childline's office.

Quote of the Day
Women are supposed to be very calm generally: but women feel just as men feel...they suffer from too rigid a restraint, too absolute a stagnation, precisely as men would suffer...It is thoughtless to condemn them, or laugh at them, if they seek to do more or learn more than custom has pronounced necessary for their sex.

Charlotte Bronte
(1816-1855)
